In order to expand the application of polyethylene wax in various fields, chemical modification of polyethylene wax is usually employed as an important method. In this study, polyethylene wax was grafted with maleic anhydride as a functional monomer in solution to improve the properties of polyethylene wax such as wettability, stability, and adhesion. The parameters affecting the free-radical grafting of maleic anhydride(MAH) onto polyethylene wax were studied in order to reduce the side reactions such as crosslinking during grafting. Dimethyl sulfoxide was used as electron doner additive to control the crosslinking side reaction. Acrylic acid was employed as a comonomer to improve the grafting degree by inducing copolymerization with MAH instead of homopolymerization. |
