Superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) have found wide use in personal care products such as disposable baby diapers, feminine hygiene and adult incontinence (AI) products with a global SAP capacity of ca. 2.2 million MT in 2014. Modern thinner disposable diapers with good absorption, dryness and no leakage are prepared by increasing the wt% of SAPs relative to the weight of the bulkier cellulose fluffs to 60-70% or higher. For such thinner diapers, the roles of SAP became more versatile and thus more innovative SAP products are required. This presentation discusses challenges and some development needs for modern disposable personal care products application. |
