Polymeric nanoparticles have been widely exploited for the treatment of various diseases, and the surface modification of the nanoparticles has often been used to enhance the therapeutic efficacy and reduce the side effect. In this study, poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanoparticles loaded with calcium carbonate mineral were prepared as gas-generating nanoparticles under acidic endosomal conditions. The surface of the gas-generating nanoparticles was modified with functional peptides to improve the intracellular delivery. Change in the subcutaneous fat pad a high fat diet mouse treated with the peptide-modified nanoparticles were investigated. Interestingly, surface-functionalized gas-generating nanoparticles were useful to reduce the localized fat pad, confirmed by measurement of the fat pad weight and histological analysis. |
