An antireflective film is essential to develop flexible organic light emitting diodes and eliminate reflected light over a wide wavelength range. To develop a single-layered compensation film, we designed and synthesized a X–shaped reactive mesogen (XRM) which contains the conjugated backbone with two imine bonds and two alkyl chains. The single-layered thin compensator was fabricated by coating, self-assembly with subsequent polymerization in the smectic host RM and XRM mixture. Through thermal and microscopic analyses, it was found that the optimized content of XRM was 40 wt%. The optimized single-layered thin compensator shows the ideal molecular self-assembly and negative dispersion retardation, resulted from host-guest molecular arrangement. This work helps to understand importance of self-assembly behaviors of the host-guest system for fabricating single-layered compensator.
