Electrochromic device (ECD) can efficiently control the transmittance of visible light by the redox reactions of the electrochromic materials by applying a voltage. In particular, flexible ECD using a plastic substrate requires the use of a solid polymer electrolyte with good adhesive properties. In this study, we have developed novel solid polymer electrolytes which are highly adhesive and ion conductive via a simple radical polymerization. In addition, the use of various kinds of cross-linkers and plasticizers have been investigated to optimize the performances of the flexible ECDs. Consequently, the flexible ECDs with high optical density and durability could be successfully fabricated using the highly adhesive solid polymer electrolytes.
