Sulfonated hydrocarbon membranes are widely used for proton exchange membranes in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs) instead of expensive perfluorosulfonic acid membranes. However, the durability of sulfonated hydrocarbon membranes needs more development, which is related to the chemical degradation ascribed to the formation of free radicals. Hence, sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) (SPAES) composite membranes were prepared with a hindered amine functionalized graphene oxide having an antioxidant property. The composite membranes showed better proton conductivity, chemical and thermal stability and mechanical strength compared to the pristine SPAES membrane. |
