Thieno[3,4-b]thiophene-based copolymers seem to be very interesting, in terms of their HOMO energy level, absorption efficiency, and energy bandgap, etc. Thieno[3,4-b]thiophene derivatives are known to be good electron-accepting units for synthesis of low band-gap polymers, even though the synthetic procedures are somewhat complicated. Carbazole derivatives have been frequently used as electron-donating units for synthesis of low band-gap polymers. In this study, we attempted to synthesize thieno[3,4-b]thiophene-based alternating copolymers via Suzuki coupling reaction. The structure and properties of the polymers were characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, GPC, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, cyclic voltammetry, UV-visible spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. Bulk heterojunction solar cells with ITO/PEDOT:PSS/Polymer:PCBM/LiF/Al configuration were fabricated. The experimental results will be presented in detail. |
