The conjugated polydiacetylene (PDA) supramolecules show unique emission fluorescence changes from nothing to red in response to environmental perturbations. However, the quantum yield of PDA alone is very low (red phase: 0.02). Such disadvantage can be overcome via the use of FRET by incorporating fluorescent dye molecules (BO558) into PDA vesicles. In this talk, we present that heterogeneous PDA/BO558 vesicle systems can selectively detect α-cyclodextrin (CD). Interestingly, the detection limit of α-CD was increased from 2 mM (without dye molecules) to 0.05 mM. These FRET characteristics of PDA/BO558 vesicles would apply to a wider range of biomolecular recognition events. |
