제목 Molecular design principle of polyimide alignment layers to form a negative retardation film with a hybrid optical axis.
초록 Here, a series of polyimides(PIs) with a side chain containing biphenyl unit and rigid biphenylmethane group were designed and synthesized. PIs were prepared by copolymerization of cyclobutane-1,2,3,4-tetracarboxylic dianhydride (CBDA), 4,4-methylenedianiline (MDA) and [1,1’-biphenyl]-4-yl 3,5-diaminobenzoate (DA-BP). As controlling the molar ratio of MDA and DABP, we have developed a PI based alignment layer generating the hybrid alignment of discotic liquid crystals (DLCs). The introduction of rigid biphenylmethane group of MDA was essential to generate a variety of arranged alignment with interaction to align the bulk liquid crystal molecules. As a result, ultraviolet (UV) polymerizable DLC molecules were assembled to form a negative retardation film with a hybrid optical axis on specifically designed rubbing-aligned PI layer surface.
