DNA vaccine delivery using coated microneedles patch |

DNA vaccination is a novel immunotherapy to protect against infectious diseases including influenza by delivering genetically engineered DNA into skin to induce an immunological response. To reliably target delivery to skin, we prepared microneedle patches coated with an influenza DNA vaccine encoding hemagglutinin protein or DNA vaccine with A/PR8 inactivated virus vaccine. We demonstrated that microneedle delivery of DNA vaccine induced strong humoral and cellular immune responses capable of conferring protection against influenza virus lethal challenge. Microneedles patch to co-immunize with DNA and inactivated virus demonstrated cross-protection. |
