Graphene is applied in many polymer composites due to excellent electrical, mechanical, and barrier properties Graphene oxide has abundant oxygen-containing groups such as epoxide, hydroxyl, and carboxylic groups. Polyvinyl alcohol has a balanced property of gas barrier and biodegradability. Polyvinyl alcohol/graphene oxide composites were prepared to be applied as high barrier material. Oligomers associated with N-vinylpyrrolidone and butyl acrylate were formed on the graphene oxide surface by polymerization. Graphene oxides modified with N-vinylpyrrolidone containing oligomer was sonicated in ethanol followed by mixing with polyvinyl alcohol solution to form well-dispersed graphene oxide composite with polyvinyl alcohol. The composite films of 40 μm thickness were prepared with the film applicator and the properties of composite film were evaluated with various analysis methods. |
