Polymer gel electrolytes (PGEs) have been widely utilized in diverse applications including energy storage devices, e-skins, electrolyte gated transistors, and electrochemical displays. In particular, ion gels composed of room temperature ionic liquids (ILs) and copolymers are considered as promising high-performance PGEs, owing to their outstanding ionic conductivity, high capacitance, negligible vapor pressure, tunable mechanical robustness, and good solution processability. However, a trade-off between two important characteristics to evaluate electrolyte performance, ionic conductivity and mechanical property, is inevitable. Therefore, we proposed a simple but effective strategy for achieving mechanically robust, highly conductive ion gel platforms. In addition, we functionalized these ion gels through various approaches. We successfully demonstrated solution processable, low-voltage, flexible electrochemical displays and sensors using the functional ion gels. |
