Electrochemical devices such as batteries and supercapacitors have recently received great attention due to enormous demand in renewable energy storage. To improve the efficiency of those devices, a fine control on the microstructure of electrodes is necessary. In the present study, we prepared mesoporous carbon films, which would be regarded as promising candidate materials for electrodes in electrochemical devices, using block copolymer (BCP) templates. The carbon precursor, phenol-formaldehyde resol, was synthesized and added to polystyrene-b-poly(ethylene oxide) (PS-b-PEO) solutions from which thin films were prepared by spin coating. After post treatment such as solvent annealing to improve the lateral order as well as the orientation control, well ordered mesoporous carbon films were finally obtained through the carbonization process, as confirmed by AFM and SEM measurements. |
