Tumor therapeutic effect of liposomes containing melanin with excellent photothermal conversion efficiency |

The main problems of photothermal therapeutic agents currently being investigated are the possibilities of long-term stability and toxicity inducing inflammation or thrombosis after in vivo injection. Herein, melanin-loaded liposomes (melasomes) as a biocompatible photothermal therapeutic agent for cancer treatment are described. The melasomes showed a good photothermal conversion efficiency in vitro and in vivo under irradiation from 808 nm near infrared laser at 1.5 W/cm2. After injection of the melasomes through the tail vein, the tumor growth of mice bearing CT26 tumors was suppressed completely post the irradiation. The results indicate that the melasomes could become an attractive photothermal therapeutic agent for cancer therapy. |
