Recently, photothermal therapy (PTT) has been widely studied for selective tumor destruction. Herein, we suggest natural melanin-loaded nanovesicles (melasicles) as photothermal therapeutic agents for NIR mediated tumor therapy. The melasicles were spherical shape of 140±15 nm in diameter. Due to the intrinsic photothermal properties of melanin, the melasicles showed good photothermal conversion efficiencies both in vitro and in vivo. After injecting the melasicles through tail veins of CT-26 bearing mice, tumors were suppressed or eliminated after irradiation at 1.5 W/cm2 for 5 min once or twice. All these results, we suggest that melasicles could be used as attractive photothermal therapeutic agents. |
