The incidence of coronary artery disease has consistently increased as a result of an ageing and dietary habits. To treat this disease, percutaneous coronary intervention has advanced until now, particularly through the use non-degradable metal stents (NDMSs). However, currently, biodegradable polymeric stents (BDPSs) have emerged as promising alternatives to non-degradable scaffolds. BDPSs have shown low occurrences of in-stent restenosis or late stent thrombosis because they completely degrade into innocuous molecules. Despite these advantages, NDMSs currently dominate the global market because of its good strength. Therefore, the final goal of this research is to improve mechanical strength of PLLA vascular scaffold using melt-drawing (MD) process and to analyze processing variables. In conclusion, newly designed MD method has shown a potential for developing vascular scaffolds with improved mechanical properties. |
