To develop an advanced thermal managing (TM) material which can effectively transfer the problematic heat in the electronic devices, rod-shaped reactive mesogen (RRM) was newly synthesized as a building block for the thermal conducting films. Based on the combined techniques of spectroscopy, scattering and thermal analyses, it was verified that the synthesized RRM formed a smectic A (SmA) mesophase between crystalline and isotropic phases. The thermal conducting films fabricated by the polymerization of RRM in both LC and isotropic phases exhibited outstanding thermal conductivity over 1 W/mK. In addition, the heat transfer of RRM film can be amplified in a certain direction by the uniaxial orientation of molecules in the network. The highly thermal conducting films can be used as an advanced TM material for electronic devices. This work was supported by Basic Research Laboratory Program (2020R1A4A1018259). |
