As the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere increases, climate change has become a severe problem in terms of global. For replacing fossil fuels, hydrogen is getting considered an environmentally benign energy source. In this study, decentralized hydrogen production using a small-scale power plant with an integrated very high-temperature reactor (VHTR), which is one of the small modular reactors (SMR), and solid oxide electrolyzer cell (SOEC). Furthermore, comparative studies are performed considering the carbon emission cost for different configurations of the SOEC-VHTR model. Therefore, to verify the validity of the proposed system, process simulation using ASPEN PLUS V11, process optimization using MATLAB, economic analysis considering the carbon emission cost, exergy analysis, and sensitivity analysis according to the plant capacity, grid electricity cost, and carbon emission cost are performed. |
