Polyaniline (PANI) has been considered as an important conducting polymer because of its potential applications such as antistatic materials, anticorrosion coatings, catalysts, and chemical sensor. Recently, several researchers have synthesized polymer nanoparticles using microemulsion polymerization. This approach utilizes the nanometer-sized micelles as “nanoreactor”. Herein, we report the fabrication of monodisperse and nanometer-sized PANI spheres as small as 4 nm using microemulsion polymerization. The size of PANI nanoparticle was evaluated as functions of different surfactants, surfactant concentration and polymerization temperature. We also investigated the conductivity of PANI nanoparticles and the carbonized PANI nanoparticles showed the various characteristics of superparamagnetism, this could be applied as nano-magnetic materials. |
