Solution-processable conjugated polymer semiconductors are of great interest in flexible and printed electronics. However, control of the morphology, intra- and intermolecular ordering, and alignment of nanostructure domains remain a formidable challenge that severely limits the charge transport and hinders their widespread applications in electronics and optoelectronics. Here, we report a facile, scalable strategy for efficient alignment of polymer semiconductor nanowire (NW)-array films that exhibit remarkable enhancement in charge transport using a controlled evaporative self-assembly. Highly oriented poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) NW films exhibited up to ~ 10-fold enhancement in the carrier mobility compared to pristine films. The aligned P3HT NW films showed carrier mobility of up to 0.2 cm2/V.s, which is ~10 times higher than that of pristine films. |
