Titania nanostructures via block copolymer self-assembly |

Nanostructured titania has attracted extensive research interests over two decades since it could find itself in various applications including photovoltaics, photocatalysts and sensors. However, its performance depends on its nanostructure involving the specific surface area and crystallinity, and its use is limited practically due to the difficulty in controlling the regular structure on the nanometer scale, especially at high temperature. The template approach using block copolymer self-assembly can provide a route to generate well-controlled titania nanostructure. In this study, PS-b-PEO diblock copolymers were used as a structure-directing agent, and together with titanium precursor were spin-coated to form hybrid thin films. They were then calcined at high temperature to remove organic compound and generate crystalline structure of titania. By controlling the composition and processing conditions, various titania nanostructures were characterized by AFM, SEM and GISAXS. |
