Controlling osteoblast phenotype on nano-structured polymer surfaces |
초록 |
Tissue engineering generally requires the use of polymeric matrices that mimic many roles of the extracellular matrices in the body. Controlling cell-matrix interactions is one of the most critical parameters for regulating cell phenotype in tissue engineering. We hypothesized that controlling the surface structures of polymer matrices in the nanometer scale could be critical in regulation of osteoblast phenotype. Here, nanostructured surfaces were produced through self-assembly of PS-b-PEO block copolymer/DBSA surfactant complex systems, and their structures were controlled by the composition and MW of components. The adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation of MC3T3 cells that were cultured on the nano-structured surfaces were found to be greatly influenced by the detailed structure. This approach to controlling cell phenotype by varying the surface structure of matrices in the nanometer size scale could be useful for designing novel scaffolds in tissue engineering applications. |
