Mussel-inspired synthesis of magnetically recyclable visible-driven ß-FeOOH photocatalyst |

Mussel-inspired linking of iron oxy hydroxide (ß-FeOOH) on magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) as a core that will facilitate the easy of recovery process with external magnetic force was successfully attempted to produce novel hybrid photocatalyst. β-FeOOH is a bit promising visible light driven photocatalyst because its narrow band gap 2.12 eV and can further utilize the spectrum of solar light (~46% of visible light). As molecular glue between ß-FeOOH and IONPs, we conjugated a robust catechol derivative 2-chloro-3’, 4’-dihydroxyacethophenone (CCDP) to the backbone of poly (vinyl pyrrolidone). The degradation of rhodamine B as a model compound for environmental pollutants was used to demonstrate the photocatalytic activity of the PVP-CCDP coated IONPs/FeOOH under visible light and can be repeatedly recycling. Mussel-inspired linking might be widely applicable for the generation of novel and robust hybrid nanomaterials accomplishing synergistic performance enhancement. |
