Nowadays, even though a lot of clinical use of implantable medical devices, several problems such as thrombosis and infection still have been unsolved problems. Zwitterionic groups have been introduced as new generation of anti-fouling materials to inhibit protein adsorption and biofilm formation. Meanwhile, many investigations have demonstrated that the more fluorine is, the more thrombo-resistant the material is. In this study, we synthesized novel zwitterionic and fluorinated polyurethane (ZFPU) additives to confer anti-fouling and anti-thrombotic effects to polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The modified polyurethanes was characterized by FT-IR and 1H-NMR analyses. PVC and ZFPUs blended films were prepared by a hot pressing method. We also investigated the adsorption of human fibrinogen and water contact angle on the PVC and ZFPUs blended films. Our results demonstrate that the addition of ZFPUs to PVC significantly lowered protein adsorption and platelet adhesion than pure PVC. |
