Recently, graphite nanofibers (GNFs) have generated an intense interest in an application of these new carbon materials toward a number of applications including a polymer reinforcement and catalyst support. However, it's applications have been limited due to the low specific surface areas and poor pore development. In this work, the activation process of GNFs was performed with a chemical activation method in order to manufacture porous GNFs. Potassium hydroxide was used as a chemical agent with 1:4 of GNFs:KOH weight ratio, and the activation temperature was various from 700 to 1100℃. The pore structure was analyzed by N2/77K adsorption isotherms. Specific surface areas (SBET) and total pore volumes (VT) were measured by BET and D-R equation, respectively. Mesopore volumes (VME) of the samples were analyzed by the BJH equation. It was observed that the SBET and VT of the samples were increased up to 900℃ of activation temperature from 220 to 610 m2/g, and then showed equilibrium state. |
