제목 Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(p-phenylenevinylene)derivatives Containing Alkylthio or Alkylsulfonyl Side Groups
초록 Novel alkylthioether-substituted (CnT-PPV) and alkylsulfone-substituted(CnS-PPV) poly(p-phenylenevinylene) derivatives have been synthesized by the well-known Wittig condensation polymerization. These polymers have been characterized using x-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) & photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). CnS-PPV showed blue-shifted emission because the polar sulfonyl group reduced effective conjugation length compared with CnT-PPV. The synthesized PPV derivatives with longer side chains showed red-shifted emission compared with those with shorter side chains due to ordered phase. POM studies showed that all these polymers have liquid crystalline phase. The polymers were found to form layered structures; the stiff main chains are oriented coplanar, and the linear alkyl side chains are extended laterally within the planes of their main chains. This means that phase seperation occurs between the flexible nonpolar side chains and the rigid aromatic cores leading to lamellar packing structures.
