We report a simple preparation method of highly conductive polyimide (PI) composites. PI is an important high performance material. It was found that the electrical conductivity of PI films was improved by in-situ thermal preparation of PI composites with functionalized graphene sheets. The surface functionalization of graphite oxide was carried out with aryl diazonium salt including 4-iodoaniline to form I-Ph-GO. The I-Ph-GO/Polyamic acid (PAA) composite was prepared by solution mixing method and then thermally treated. The electrical conductivities of reduced I-Ph-GO/PI and reduced GO/PI composite films containing 10 wt% of reduced graphene oxide in polymer matrix were 5.1x10-1 S/m and 3.8x10-2 S/m, respectively. Consequentially, the reduced I-Ph-GO/PI composite showed more than ten times higher conductivity compared to the reduced GO/PI composite. Furthermore, the reduced I-Ph-GO/PI composite led to a ten orders of magnitude higher the electrical conductivity compared to pure PI. |
