In this work, poly(acrylic acid) based superabsorbent polymers(SAPs) which have bactericidal property was successfully synthesized using a natural resource, catechin. Catechin could be obtained from green tea leaves and shows excellent bactericidal property. Moreover, it can be crosslinked with polyacrylic acid, making an ester bond at the surface. The bactericidal tests and water uptake measurements were carried out with various amount of catechin. In the result, the surface crosslinking could enhance the water retention ability of SAP, while it couldn’t show good bactericidal property. Therefore, the SAPs having high water absorbency will be expected to be widely used in industrial field with enhanced bactericidal property. |
