In polymer thin film system, the interfacial interactions are the critical parameters to determining the thermal and physical properties of polymer films. Interestingly, the interfacial energy of grafted brush layer could be tuned by simply controlling brush’s grafting density. Many efforts have been devoted to modulating the interfacial interactions by changing the conditions on brushed substrates, such as chemical identity, chain length and grafting condition. In this study, we controlled the molecular weight of hydroxyl-functionalized polystyrene (HO-PS) to modify the grafted layer on a standard Si wafer. Autophobic dewetting behavior of PS melts was investigated by direct measurements of contact angles. The maximum interfacial tension and maximum contact angle were evaluated for the PS droplets at the extremely short and dense brushes. |
