제목 Orientation control of liquid crystal in a confined geometry at nanoscale
초록 We directly observed the molecular orientation of liquid crystal having nematic (N) and smectic A (SmA) phases in a porous anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) film using a grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXD) technique. The molecular orientation was successfully controlled in the AAO film modified with silane molecules that induce planar and homeotropic anchoring and the suppressed behavior of the LC molecules can be observed in the extreme-smaller pore size of the AAO film. Our systematic investigation into controlling the LC behavior at the varied AAO films will provide a platform to study complex soft matter at molecular scale.
