Highly-efficient OLEDs by functional linker position and molecular orientation |

We synthesized and characterized the new blue dopants with diphenylamine derivative containing malononitrile as a thermally activated delayed fluorescence(TADF) in organic light emitting diodes(OLEDs). The TADF-OLEDs with an m-phenyl linker dopant showed higher efficiencies of 12.62 cd/A and 8.81 lm/W compared to that with the p-phenyl linker dopant(1.38 cd/A and 0.70 lm/W), which had the m- or p-phenyl linker between an electrondonating diphenylamine unit and an electron-withdrawing malonitrile unit. A small charge-transfer singlet-triplet state splitting below 0.1 eV. In addition, the improved charge transport and light outcoupling of an emitter with the m-phenyl linker dopant was contributed by the well-aligned stacking structure with horizontal orientation compared to the p-phenyl linker dopant with random orientation analysis. |
