Mesoporous Block copolymers (BCPs) templates can be applied to ultrafiltration (UF) membrane templates, since BCPs can self-assemble into the periodic nanostructure and minor components can be selectively removed by chemical and physical etching process. For UF membrane applications, BCPs present an attractive approach for highly size-selective, permeable membranes due to their narrow size distributions and high pore densities. Here, mesoporous ultrafiltration membranes were obtained by PS-b-PMMA BCPs where, cylindrical microdomains were oriented normal to the substrate and air interfaces. Continuous mesoporous channels were readily produced by a simple preferential swelling of the PMMA microdomains. The selective swelling process can generated well-defined uniform pores. It suggest an efficient route to tunable, noncomponent-degradative UF membranes. |
