Electrospinning and subsequent carbonization of ternary polymer blends consisting of polyacrylonitrile (PAN), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP) resulted in unique porous carbon nanofibers. The microphase behavior of PMMA/PVP domains in PAN medium finally determined the microstructural characteristics of the resultant carbon nanofibers. Interesting and important composition-dependent characteristics were found, such as open and enhanced effective porosity, which was correlated with the electrochemical properties of the carbon nanofibers. |
