제목 A Dual-Stimuli-Responsive Self-Reporting Chemical Reservoir Coating
초록 We have developed a novel dual-stimuli-responsive self-reporting thiol-epoxy thermoset (DSRTET) coating that can detect both crack occurrence and pH variation. For crack detection, microcapsules containing 1,1,2,2-tetraphenylethylene (TPE) that exhibit aggregation induced emission (AIE) were prepared via a multi-step emulsion polymerization and dispersed in the DSRTET coating. For pH variation detection, the commercial pH indicator thymol blue was added into the polymer matrix. The effects of the microcapsule content of the DSRTET coating on its curing behavior, material properties, and crack sensitivity were characterized by using oscillatory rheology, the rigid body pendulum test (RPT), the nano-indentation test (NST), a universal test machine (UTM), and a scratch tester. It was found that the crack sensitivity of the DSRTET coating is strongly influenced by the material properties and the microcapsule content. The transitions in the color of the DSRTET coating in response to acid and base solutions were quantitatively investigated by using a multi-angle spectrophotometer in simple acid and base solution drop tests. The color of the DSRTET coating changes from pale green to red in the presence of an acidic solution and to blue in the presence of a basic solution. Finally, the DSRTET was applied to a laboratory scale chemical reservoir in order to assess its performance as a dual-stimuli-responsive self-reporting coating that can detect both cracks in the coated material and chemical spills due to leakages from the reservoir.
