Manipulation and control of the structures at the nanometer scale have been of great interest due to its potential impacts on science and technology. Among them, self-assembly of block copolymers has been widely investigated due to its rich morphologies. While self-assembly of block copolymers on flat substrates has been well explored, its behaviors in the confined geometry or at free standing has yet to be explored. Electrospinning provides convenient routes for creating free-standing and confined nanostructures. In this work, we have investigated that self-assembly of block copolymers in nanofibrils prepared by electrospining. As a model system, PS-b-P2VP (57K-57K) dissolven in chloroform has been used. Block copolymers spontaneously assembled into cylindrical shape with concentric nanostructures. Electrospun nano-fibers with concentric nanostructures have been investigated for photonic band gap (PBG) materials, which can be tunable and applicable for low energy loss waveguides. |
