Polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS) are the most widely used siloxane polymers in ceramic coating system because of their numerous biocompatibility and safety. However, their hydrophobicity due to siloxane and methyl groups in the polymer chain has resulted in the low affinity with water-based solution and the limited amounts of added PDMS. To solve such problem, we examined two methods to increase amount of the dispersed PDMS in water-based ceramic coating solution. One method is making smaller PDMS droplets using ultrasonication for the prevention of phase separation. The other method is adding the additives to make micelle and emulsify PDMS and water. Finally, two methods were proven to effectively disperse PDMS in water-based solution and improve the properties after the ceramic coating. |
