Co/CeO2-decorated carbon nanofibers are introduced as electrocatalyst for methanol oxidation. Calcination in nitrogen atmosphere of electrospun nanofibers composed of Co(Ac)2•4H2O, Ce(Ac)3•H2O, and PVA leads to form carbon nanofibers decorated by Co/CeO2 nanoparticles. The graphitization of the PVA has been enhanced due to presence of cobalt which acts as effective catalyst. The obtained sintered powder was characterized by XRD, HR-TEM, FESEM, EDX. The physicochemical characterization affirmed that the metallic nanoparticles are sheathed by thin crystalline graphite layer. The introduced catalyst showed negative onset potential (-50 mV vs. Ag/AgCl). Moreover, methanol electro oxidation happens at comparatively low applied voltage (180 mV vs. Ag/AgCl). |
