Due to the indiscriminate use of fossil energy, side effects such as abnormal climate have been rapidly increasing in recent years. Hydrogen is an eco-friendly enrgy resouce that can replace fossil energy. Proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) is the water electrolysis system that produce pure hydrogen by transporting hydrogen ions using a proton exchange membrane. Perfluorosulfonic acid ionomers such as Dufont's Nafion are mainly used as PEM because of their high proton conductivities and chemical stabilities. However, Nafion has problems due to its low glass transition temperature, high gas permeability, and high cost. In this study, we synthesized sulfonated poly(p-phenylene) polymer with branching unit by Ni(0)-catalyzed coupling polymerization, and the chemical and physical properties of the branched polymer was measured such as 1H-NMR, GPC, dimensional changes, proton conductivity, IEC and etc. Additionally, cell performance was measured by single cell test. |
