제목 | Electrochemical CO2 Reduction to Formate on Sn and SnO2 Catalysts |
초록 | The efficiency of electrochemical CO2 reduction is strongly dependent on the activity and selectivity of the cathodic catalyst. Tin (Sn)-based catalysts have been used to produce formate because of their high selectivities and low costs. In this study, tin (Sn) and tin oxide (SnO2) were tested in an H-type cell which consists of two vessels divided by an ion exchange membrane. The Sn and SnO2 nanoparticles-coated carbon fiber papers (CFP) were immersed in CO2-saturated 0.5 M KHCO3 aqueous solution. The Pt coil was used as counter electrode in the 0.5 M KOH aqueous solution. The electrolysis was performed for 24 h over –2.0 V vs. Ag/AgCl using a potentiostat/galvanostat. The Faradaic efficiency (FE, %) of formate on the Sn cathode reached at 94%, and then maintained with 92%. Whereas FE of formate on the SnO2 cathode started to decrease after 16 h electrolysis, and was lower than that of Sn. |
