Selective production of ethylene from propylene over ZSM-5: improved catalytic performance by post-treatment with ammonium hexafluorosilicate |

The interconversion propylene and ethylene is important since the demand and the price of those chemicals varied much in different region of the world. For example, plenty of ethylene is supplied from newly constructed many ethane crackers in order to use shale gas in U.S. However, in the region of Asia, the price of propylene is cheaper than ethylene price because there are many propylene sources such as naphtha cracker and PDH. Regarding the techniques of for the PTE process, Philips disclosed and commercialized tri-olefin process by using olefin metathesis reaction in 1960s. In our study, ZSM-5 zeolite was modified with ammonium hexafluorosilicate (AHFS) treatment. The modified ZSM-5 materials were characterized by TPD, XRD, BET, ICP and 27Al NMR techniques and applied to PTE conversion as efficient catalysts. The catalytic performances were investigated in a continuous flow fixed-bed-reactor. The best performing catalyst was composed of 0.1 mol of AHFS having Si/Al2 ratio of 50. |
