One-pot fabrication of Co-Ni hydroxide composite film for pseudocapacitors |

A multiphase composite film composed of nickel hydroxide and cobalt hydroxide was fabricated from the inner Helmholtz plane by novel co-precipitation method. The composite films showed 3D network structure and corrugated morphology, which enables to facilitate the penetration of an electrolyte and provide several reaction sites for ion transfer. And the film exhibited a high capacitance and a stable cyclic retention because of its 3D network nanostructure and high conductivity due to CoOOH evolved during cycling. The facile method enables compounds to directly grow on substrate without a binder and a complex fabrication process of electrode. The capacitive characteristics of the composite films in 1M KOH electrolyte show that the highest specific capacitance is 1123 F/g. After 2000 cycles at 5 mA/cm, the retention rate for the composite films is 80%. The results present that Co-Ni hydroxide composite films is very promising for pseudocapacitor and the mehtod is expected to be applied to other systems.
