The high performance structural adhesives, required high adhesion strength and low temperature brittleness resistance, are generally based on epoxy resin. The epoxy resin is modified introducing a material having rubber elasticity into the its backbone and side chain structure. In this study, to improve the brittleness of epoxy resin, structural adhesive composition was prepared by using modified silicone resin as a toughening material, and latent curing agent, catalyst for control of curing process and accelerator were also used as one-component system. The adhesive composition showed enhanced initial tackiness and impact strength. The formulation was optimized to improve the performance of the adhesive compositions. The aluminum specimens were prepared by coating the composition and curing at 120℃ for 2 hours. Then the compression shear strength (KS M 3705) and the impact shear strength (KS M 3729) were evaluated, the former of 10 to 25 MPa and the later of 50 to 150 ㎏⋅㎝. We also studied on the performance improvement by the addition of toughening agent and core shell rubber particles. |
