Mechanical properties of polypropylene biocomposites reinforced with by-product of marine algae |

In the decades, environmental concerns have increased the interest in materials from renewable resources. Marine algae have recently received a lot of attention as a new biomass source for the production of renewable energy. The marine algae are used for bio-energy production but it can cause problem when marine algae by-product occurred at bio-energy production process. We manufacture biocompostes using the marine algae by-product as reinforcing material of polypropylene(PP) and investigated characteristics of biocomposites. Thermal stability of laminaria(LM) were analyzed and mechanical properties of LM/PP biocomposites were investigated. Flexural strength of LM/PP biocompostes gradually decreased with increasing LM loadings. On the other hand, the flexural modulus gradually increased with increasing LM loadings. Storage modulus and impact strength of LM/PP biocomposites showed higher value with the addition of 20wt%. |
