Arterial stiffness is known as an independent element of risk in the process leading to heart disease. The severity of the arterial stiffness rises with the increase of age, high blood pressure, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, and terminal kidney disease. PWV (pulse wave velocity) is known as a useful and convenient noninvasive method to assess the health of blood vessels. However, the existing Sp02 based PWV assessment equipment is expensive, heavy, and has a complicated structure with parts for the illumination and optical signal processing and the LED driver circuit. This study compared and contrasted the speed of the bloodstream before and after exercise by wrapping several piezoelectric PVDF film-embedded elastic textile bands on the predetermined bodily positions. From the results, we found a more convenient method by which the PWV could be measured. Acknowledgement : This work was supported by the NRF(R11-2005-065) and the MKE(Grant No.10033449) |
