Molecular Strategies to Improving Longevity of Organic Light-Emitting Devices |

The full exploitation the potential of organic electroluminescence has been retarded by short operation time of devices. The poor device longevity originates from intrinsic degradation of organic materials during normal device operation. However, the chemical mechanism by which the degradation initiates and propagates has yet been elucidated to date. My group focuses on mechanistic investigations of the degradation of emitting layers which consist of hosts and blue phosphorescent complexes or thermally activated delayed fluorescence molecules. Our study revealed the presence of excited-state electron transfer within the emitting layer, and provided compelling evidence that electron-transfer species are intimately involved in the stability of materials. The research suggested molecular design strategies toward highly stable and efficient devices. |
