Enhanced thermal conductivity for epoxy composites with functionalized graphene nanosheets via simple sol-gel method |

Composites based on functionalized graphene sheets were fabricated with 1% to 5% by weight into epoxy resins. To progress of modified graphene sheets, the graphene oxide (GO) was prepared by oxidation of graphite using the Hummers method, and then this GO was treated with SOCl2 followed by treating with m-phenylenediamine. Treated graphene sheets with amine were covered with aluminum isopropoxide (AlIP) by using simple sol-gel method. Both the structural properties of graphene sheets and the thermal conductivities of the nanosheet-filled epoxy composite were measured. The thermal conductivity was enhanced with increase of filler concentration. This result indicated that epoxy composites which filled with chemically treated graphene sheets showed more improved thermal conductivity compared with GO. |
