Effect of Radiation Treatment of Silk Fibroin Nanofiber Web on the Properties of Electrospun Silk Fibroin Nanofiber Web/Poly(butylene succinate) Bicomposites |

Silk is one of animal-based natural fibers with excellent mechanical properties in comparison with plant-based natural fibers such as kenaf, jute, etc. Electron beam can be irradiated for fiber surface treatment. Electron beam radiation removes the surface impurities and changes the surface morphology of natural fibers. This also may lead to the improvement of the adhesive bonding between the polymer matrix and the reinforcing fibers. Silk fibroin nanofiber webs have been prepared by electrospinning and irradiated at various electron beam absorption doses. Then, silk fibroin nanofiber web/poly(butylene succinate) biocomposites were fabricated by a compression molding. Here we investigated the effect of electron beam absorption doses on the thermal and mechanical properties of the biocomposite materials measured by TGA, TMA, DMA and tensile test. |
