Preparation of initiator free photo-crosslinkable aromatic polymer pore-filling membranes and their property for polymer electrolyte fuel cells |

We have prepared crosslinked electrolyte pore filling membranes using an ultraviolet irradiating polymerization technique without photo-initiator to apply for polymer electrolyte fuel cells. In this polymerization technique, there is no loss of sulfonic acid groups in a different way of usually used crosslinking methods of aromatic polymer electrolytes, because the crosslink of this type of aromatic polymer is generated at the backbone sites of polymer main chains including benzophenyl and methylene phenyl groups. In this crosslink technique, a benzophenyl and methylene phenyl group in a polymer backbone plays a main role of self –radical reaction when exposed under UV irradiation. Various methylene phenyl types of monomers were estimated and best one of them was employed in pore filling membranes. We showed that pore filling membranes are applicable to polymer electrolyte fuel cell using crosslinked aromatic polymers. |
