Bulk and interfacial properties of adhesive polymers play an important role to determine adhesion strengths and failure modes. We developed advanced functional adhesive materials, such as dismantlable adhesives, using well-defined reactive polymers, which changes bulk and interfacial properties upon external stimuli. For example, when the reactive acrylic copolymers containing cross-linkable and gas forming groups were applied to pressure-sensitive type dismantlable adhesives, the block copolymers consisting of a cross-linkable soft segment and a gas forming hard segment showed superior dismantlable adhesion properties compared with the corresponding random copolymers. Detailed investigations such as the microscopic observations of the adhesive layers revealed that superior properties of the block copolymer are originated from their microphase-separated structure. |
