Inorganic Antibody Mimics with Polymeric Recognition Phases for Detection and Inactivation of Pathogenic Bacteria |

Herein, we reported an effective approach for design of luminescent inorganic artificial antibodies with multivalent polymeric recognition phases for the selective and sensitive detection and inactivation of pathogenic bacteria. The specific polymeric recognition phases capable of binding to target bacteria formed on transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) nanosheets during an exfoliation process of bulk TMD in water. The TMD nanosheets with dextran recognition phases on the interface selectively recognized S. aureus or E. coli O157:H7 with a high binding affinity. The bacterial binding sites of the TMD artificial antibodies were thoroughly studied by experiments and molecular dynamics simulations. Moreover, the MoSe2 artificial antibodies could selectively kill the pathogenic bacteria in the wounds of infected mice under light irradiation. TMD antibody mimics can be extended for the sensing and therapy of various diseases. |
